Six more bus operators pledge to improve customer service                                                    This is a joint initiative between bus operators and Suffolk County Council in a bid to improve customer experience. Ipswich Buses, First Eastern Counties, Galloway European and Shis partnership Jotephensons of Essex have already signed up to tining these four operators, will be:

  • Simonds of Botesdale – covers Diss, Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds
  • H.C. Chambers and Son – covers Sudbury, Bury St Edmunds, Clare, Colchester
  • Anglian Bus ltd - covers Lowestoft, Southwold, Beccles, Bungay and Harleston
  • BorderBus Ltd – routes include Alderbrugh, Halesworth, Saxmundham and Leiston
  • Coach Services – Brandon, Lakenheath and Mildenhall
  • Carters Coach Services – Ipswich and southern Suffolk

Bus operators will regularly review the punctuality of their services and identify the causes for any late services. Once identified, each company has responsibilities to put remedies in place.

Twice yearly reports on punctuality levels will be submitted to the Traffic Commissioner for the Eastern Region who will monitor progress.

In the recent survey by Passenger Focus, the four key areas measured showed that Suffolk is performing well against the national average.

  • Overall Satisfaction with Service – Suffolk score 93% (national average 88%) – this is the highest recorded score
  • Satisfaction with bus journey time – Suffolk score 89% - (national average 86%)
  • Satisfaction with value for money – Suffolk score 64% (national average 61%)
  • Satisfaction with punctuality – Suffolk Score 75% (national average 76%)

Councillor Mary Evans, assistant cabinet member for roads and transport said:

“We want to encourage more people to travel by bus to ease congestion and improve air quality in our bigger towns. Two of the key factors in deciding to take the bus instead of driving are the punctuality and reliability of the bus service.

“I am really pleased to see more bus operators sign up to the Punctuality Improvement Partnership. This means that the companies in Suffolk who operate the majority of registered local bus services and Suffolk County Council are now signed up and committed to improving punctuality”
